SEBRING - Sebring High School senior Bailey Vickers has been chosen to represent Bloomer Trailers out of hundreds of high school rodeo athletes across the United States.
The Bloomer Trailers team consists of 33 members representing 12 states. This is the second year Bailey has been chosen to represent Bloomer Trailers in breakaway roping.
Vickers and the rest of the Bloomer team will be competing against approximately 1,200 other contestants at the International Finals Youth Rodeo in Shawnee, Okla. July 10-15.
That rodeo, also known as the Cheyenne of High School Rodeo, prepares athletes to move up to the next level. It offers 11 performances of the top high school rodeo action, and it has three arenas running simultaneously with a more than $200,000 payoff.
The best of the best compete at Shawnee, and it is the coveted win in a high school rodeo career. Bloomer Trailers Team has won the championship the past two years.
Team members are chosen not only on their ability to win in their event, but also based on moral character, attitude, competitive spirit and leadership ability.
"Becoming a champion is not easy; it takes hard work, perseverance and dedication to get to the top and stay at the top of any field. Bailey has all the qualities of a winner, and we are proud to have her on our team," said Randy Bloomer, owner of Bloomer Trailers.
The majority of the Bloomer team members will go on to compete at the college and pro level. The Bloomer program works extensively with the athletes leading up to the competition in several areas, including: obtaining sponsors; interviewing for television and radio; understanding the business side of rodeo; sitting for photo shoots; filming live; and focusing on being a winner in and out of the arena.
This year, team members got to work with Jason Smith, right tackle of the St. Louis Rams; Tuff Hedeman, world champion bull rider and president of the Championship Bull Riding; radio announcer BobTallman; and country singer Brandon Rhyder.
The team also works several professional rodeo cowboys who are on the Bloomer pro team. Plus, the youths are trained by commentator Pam Minick and TV personality Susie Dobbs for future television and radio interviews.
Just the Way You Are Photography, Panhandle Slim, Justin Boots, Cinch Jeans, Cruel Girl Jeans, Southern Thread, Rock and Roll Cowgirl are among the companies that also work with the young rodeo team.
Vickers is very involved at Sebring High School, where she is on the dance team and is active in National Honor Society, Livestock Judging Team, Mu Alpha Beta and 4-H. She will be competing for the second year at the National High School Rodeo Finals in Gillette, Wyo. this summer.
Bailey is the daughter of Ed and Kim Vickers.
