Tribute to mother supports hospice - Cabinet.com

It was well known to family and friends that Alice Roberge just loved a great party. So, when Alice?s family decided to hold a fundraiser for the Community Hospice House it was an easy decision that it should be a rock concert dance party.

Alice Roberge spent her final days at the Community Hospice House last June, surrounded by her loving husband, Paul; son, Kenny; daughters Denise and Cindy; and numerous grandchildren and other family members. The family took turns, around the clock, spending those last precious hours with Alice in her room. They were able to sleep over and said they really felt at home.

Kenny said he felt his mom had the chance to spend her last days at what the family called a ?five-star hotel.? Alice?s daughters even commented that after their experience at the House they are ?no longer afraid of death.? They felt comforted by the surroundings and the caring support offered to them.

Alice?s family wanted to find a meaningful way to thank the nurses and staff at the Community Hospice House for the exceptional care they gave to them and their mom.

They also wanted to help spread the word that Home Health & Hospice Care is a valuable resource the community can turn to during a very difficult time.

Kenny took the helm in organizing the first Rock Cancer Benefit at the Derryfield Country Club. He called area musicians for live music and local businesses for raffle items. Then, the family spread the word and started selling tickets to the party. And sell tickets they did; more than 250 people were present Feb. 16 to help remember what a wonderful woman Alice was and raise money for the Community Hospice House.

The family was amazed at the incredible support and response they received which resulted in raising a very generous $4,500. This money will go far in helping Home Health & Hospice Care provide critical services to other families during their time of need.

The first Rock Cancer Benefit was certainly a touching tribute to a mom who obviously did a great job, along with her loving husband, raising such a caring, loving, and generous family.

Alice would certainly be proud.
